We all need to figure out what works for ourselves--we're not all the same, people! ;)Anniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00790729223961307532noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1292289725529770176.post-22318147748201022802011-06-04T23:54:21.575-07:002011-06-04T23:54:21.575-07:00I've had 6 epidural babies and an unplanned na...I've had 6 epidural babies and an unplanned natural birth 7th baby. It's funny to see the difference. I was up and running around and had minimal drugs after the epiduals. The nurses were surprised that I wasn't asking for pain pills for so long. After the natural birth, I was eating Loritab and Motrin like it was popcorn. It took me two weeks of pain and misery to recover. I also had no coaches or help from the nurses or doctor or my husband. I was compltely on my own. Fortunatly I had given birth before so I had an idea of how to push, what to expect (except the pain). It was much worse though than it should have been because the baby's heart rate was having problems so they made me lie still. The one time they let me up to use the restroom I felt great! The last thing I wanted was to get back in that bed. The thing that surprised me the most though was that after the natural birth baby was born I wanted nothing to do with her. I was still recovering from the birth experience. I was silent, and in another world, and like you had no idea what was going on. It was almost like I had left. People were talking, but I don't know about what. It took me awhile to come back to reality, and it took about 45 minutes before I even wanted to see the baby. Once she was born I made them give her to my husband. Honestly, I know that there's a lot of opinions out there, but I had an easier time bonding with my epidural babies than my natural. I think each woman should follow her own instincts and do what is right for her (like you did). It's so different for everyone, that you just have to do what feels right for you and not listen too much to what it was like for someone else. Each experience is unique. And yes, like you, I'll never encourage natural childbirth! I personally thank God for inspiring the Epidural! (Sorry for the long comment. I guess it goes with your long post!)RRehmhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15821729147108417882noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1292289725529770176.post-67117283106830133212011-05-11T15:55:30.525-07:002011-05-11T15:55:30.525-07:00I can't believe you went all natural! My 1st was an epidural baby (11 hour labor) and my 2nd was all natural (only 1.5 hour labor so I had no choice). BTW, I don't think there's a difference in the love you feel for your child one way or the other. They both have their pros and cons and if you're ever interested I can tell you more. Congrats again on your beautiful girl and amazing birth story :)Justin and Kitarahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05907865605770745988noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1292289725529770176.post-53480875539245916292011-05-11T01:08:34.087-07:002011-05-11T01:08:34.087-07:00So fun to read your story, Annie! Congratulations...So fun to read your story, Annie! Congratulations! I laughed at the moment where you talked about being in pain and no one focusing on you. It made me remember my first labor, Josh was on the phone with his family on the the other side of the room, and they were all making bets on how big the baby would be. I wanted to say, "Really, people!" I was so frustrated with it, but didn't say anything at the time. What a lot of fun for you both! I am so so excited to meet her. One day...Sarahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11248228380693086358noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1292289725529770176.post-18933632147872834102011-05-08T09:07:02.164-07:002011-05-08T09:07:02.164-07:00Way to go Annie! For me it takes a little time to get to know my baby- and the love came for me through all the sacrifice- which I'm sure you've had a lot of experience with now! Starts in pregnancy and goes on forever :-) Happy Mother's Day!!CLhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17650962687572384256noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1292289725529770176.post-17555146645151540592011-05-07T20:22:59.780-07:002011-05-07T20:22:59.780-07:00Go, you! B/C the less things intervene (as long as things go well) like epidurals, pitocin, fetal monitoring, etc, the less likely you are to have a c-section. And that was what I wanted to avoid the most. But then I had triplets so . . .Emilyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09827586433437956419noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1292289725529770176.post-23383734571724560582011-05-07T17:54:49.523-07:002011-05-07T17:54:49.523-07:00Thanks for sharing this. Adam is the only person that got me through it. And that's so funny what your doctor said about pushing it like a BM. That's how it totally felt to me.Emilyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09827586433437956419noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1292289725529770176.post-64944249638816676532011-05-07T17:12:31.102-07:002011-05-07T17:12:31.102-07:00I loved it, Annie! When Janen was about a day old she started choking on a lot of mucous and turned blue. They had to take her away and put a tube down her throat to get all of the mucous out. It freaked me out! I did have an epidural, but I am one of those lucky ones that didn't have a bad reaction. I was extremely alert, just numb from the waste down. Good for you for going au-natural! And congrats for having such a beautiful baby!Jessica Havicanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15960516215964917201noreply@blogger.com
